LARNED — Larned USD 495 presented University of Kansas Certificates of Service to those Kansas teachers who have taught 25 years, at a recent school board meeting. The following are approved minutes.
Jay Haremza, USD 495 board president, called the regular meeting to order. Attending were board members Marcia Giessel, Jay Haremza, Brenda Hagerman, Sharon Arnold, June Barger, Sharon Lessard, Jon Flint, superintendent, Phil Martin, board attorney, Bonnie Carlson, treasurer, and Joyce Simpson, clerk.
Approval passed for the minutes of April 11, 2011, as presented. Approval passed for the bills as presented.
Approval passed for the March treasurer’s report as presented.
Special Recognition
Larned USD 495 board president Jay Haremza awarded certificates to Kimberley Morse and Kathy Keehbauch, IRC teachers, Larned High School; Patty Holaday, Larned Middle School counselor; and Jon Flint, Larned USD 495 superintendent.
Student Spotlight
Students from Larned High School who earned I ratings for choir or band were recognized — freshman Gina Wray, sophomore Bryce Gervara and junior Sarah Liston. Each student explained what type of performance he or she had done.
Staff Handbooks
Larned elementary school, middle school and high school principals reviewed changes to be made in the Staff Handbooks with the board. Haremza said board members needed more time to look through the handbooks. The decision on staff handbooks was tabled until the June meeting.
Student Handbooks
Approval passed for the Student Handbooks for the elementary, middle school and high school with the suggested changes for the 2011-2012 school year.
Middle School By-Laws
Approval passed for the changes as submitted for the Middle School Stuco By-Laws.
Grants
Approval passed for the multiple Midwest Energy Grants totaling $2,250.
Summer Usage
Approval passed to allow the summer usage as submitted by band directors Marc Webster and Gene Williams.
Wide Area Network
Approval passed to accept the bid of $18,420 from ETek Group, Inc. for the completion of the WAN Project.
