Larned VFW Auxiliary meets

LARNED — Rits Kurtz presided over the monthly meeting of the Larned VFW Auxiliary on the second Monday of October. Tammy Mase led the opening ceremonies and flag salute.
Barbara Penka reports that she had bought 100 towel sets for gifts for the Fort Dodge Soldiers Home and other Veterans. Wal-Mart donated a gift card for soaps to go with these gifts.
Brenda Perez reported that she is working with 1st-and 2nd-graders in hopes that they can wave small flags at the Veterans’ Day parade Nov. 11. She delivered Patriots Pen essay rules to the Middle School and Voice of Democracy information to the high school.
Rachel Bird reminded us to remember the VFW Home for Children. A monetary gift will be mailed. We also send Education Box-tops to them. Bird was thanked for supplying the baked cinnamon rolls for the fall district convention.
Karen Gilkey reported on the fall convention held in Larned. Two Larned women plan on participating at the Eisenhower Vigil scheduled in November.
Plans were made for the Veterans’ Parade Nov. 11. Rita Kurtz and Lynette Lewis will carry flags.
The next VFW Auxiliary meeting is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Post Home.
