LHS softball splits against Hillsboro

HILLSBORO — Tymarra Bryant drove in three runs to spark Larned’s girls past Hillsboro 10-6 in Monday’s softball opener. Hillsboro (1-13, 1-13 CKL) won the second game 10-3 for its first victory.

Mattie Glover worked seven innings to earn the first-game victory for Larned (5-9, 5-9 CKL).
A bases-loaded walk to Bryant forced home Baylea Perez in the first inning. Hillsboro’s Mesa Merrell doubled home a run and two runs scored on an error for a 3-1 Trojan lead.
Ally Aldrich singled home Mattie Glover in the second. Larned scored four runs in the third inning. Bryant scored on an error and Glover drilled an RBI single for a 4-3 lead. Kelsey Parr stole home on a double steal. Perez’s groundout scored Glover for a 6-3 lead.
Hillsboro’s Sam Moss delivered a two-run double in a three-run fourth inning. Glover retired Merrell to work out of trouble.
Larned scored three runs in the seventh inning. Skelton’s bases-loaded walk was followed by Bryant’s run-scoring single. Smith scored on Parr’s base hit for a 10-6 lead.

HILLSBORO 10, LARNED 3
Hillsboro’s Taylor Helmer drove in two runs and seven Trojans contributed an RBI. Hillsboro used four walks and a hit batter for a four-run first inning.
Larned led 1-0 when Aldrich scored on a double steal after courtesy runner Alissa Bird stole second base running for Erin Smith. Skelton’s double scored Bird for a 2-0 lead. In the seventh, Madison Erway tripled and came home on Perez’s groundball.
