The 2010 Salvation Army Fund Drive in Pawnee County begins Nov. 29, the Monday following Thanksgiving. The three-week drive concludes Thursday, Dec. 23.
Local church members and students from the Pawnee Heights KAY Club will ring the bell at Larned’s Dillon store; bell ringing hours will be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4 to 8 p. m., and Saturdays from 8 a. m. to 8 p. m. Twelve area businesses will serve as collection points. Patrons are encouraged to look for the red bucket.
Monies complement the work of the Ministerial Association’s Helping Hands ministry and the Larned Food Pantry. The Salvation Army funds do not duplicate the services of governmental agencies. Throughout the year, services to those in need include expenses for utilities, clothing, shoes, furniture and household goods, groceries and meals, car repairs, medical prescriptions, eye exams and glasses, dental work, student aids and learning supplies.
During the 2009 Christmas holiday season, the fund drive raised $5,300.63; already during 2010, the Salvation Army has served 312 Pawnee residents.
