Pawnee County Spelling Bee scheduled Friday

LARNED — The 2013 Pawnee County Spelling Bee is scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Larned Middle School under the direction of Paul Deveaux, seventh-grade language arts teacher at Larned Middle School.
Top spellers from Larned USD 495 and Pawnee Heights USD 501 will compete. The winner qualifies for the Sunflower Spelling Bee March 2 at Fort Hays State University’s Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center.
Last year’s Pawnee County champion was Larned Middle School student Macy Haas. Regan Carlson of Pawnee Heights Middle School was runner-up last year in a final that lasted 21 rounds.
Larned Middle School qualifiers are fifth-graders Breannan Perez, Kaylee Mead, Tristen Burger and Logan Coulson.
LMS sixth-grade qualifiers are Kristin Anderson, Jayden Theis, Landon Reinhardt and Devin Burger.
LMS seventh-grade qualifiers are Brooke Coulson, Trevor Coulson, Abby Kelty and Wes Davis.
LMS eighth-grade qualifiers are Erin Smith, Dalton McClendon, Emily Herrman and Dalton Bright.
Pawnee Heights Middle School qualifiers are fifth-graders Danann Hardy and Harrison VanMeter; sixth-graders Katie Amspacker and Trace Baker; seventh-graders Regan Carlson and Mia Stinemetz and eighth-graders Elena Stoll and Micca Knauf.
