LARNED — Pawnee County Republicans will host the county caucus March 10 at the Larned Community Center. Paula Carr serves as vice chairman of the Pawnee County Republican Central Committee.
The caucus determines what split of representation will be given to the Republican Presidential candidates filed for election. A total 40 delegates and 37 alternates are allotted for the state of Kansas at the Republican National Convention.
The Pawnee County Republicans will provide refreshments, with proceeds going to defray the caucus expenses, as well as to support candidates in the November 2012 election.
A Presidential “Caucus” is sponsored by a State Party at local party expense. Participants may vote in the caucus of their choosing in the Congressional district in which they reside. Participants must be registered with their party and may only cast their vote once.
This year in 99 locations, in 93 different counties in Kansas, the Presidential Caucus for the Republican Party will be held March 10. The number of votes cast will determine how many of Kansas’ 40 delegates to the National Republican Convention will be assigned to each presidential candidate. The entire list of caucus locations is available at www.ksgop.org.
The March 10 calendar of events will include:
8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. — Hospitality open, refreshments provided
8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. — Credentialing
10 a.m. — Call to Order, Candidates’ messages
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. — Continued voting by credentialed voters
1 p.m. — Credentialing closed; voting wrap-up
Registration is open to any U.S. citizen and resident of the State of Kansas that has reached the age of 18 prior to the next election. Registration for the caucus is required. Voters with a current Republican registration do not have to re-register. Democratic party registrants wishing to re-declare as Republican, or independent voters, must register with the Republican Party to participate.
The official election office in Pawnee County is the County Clerk at the Pawnee County Courthouse, 715 Broadway, Larned. Registration forms are also available locally at the City of Larned office, 417 Broadway, Larned, and at the Pawnee County Health Department office in the courthouse.
