Eighteen members of the Quilting Bees Guild met on Sept. 7. Ann Hicks, president, welcomed new member Susan Gray. The "Puss in the Corner" friendship blocks were won by Diane Schultz and the school fat quarter drawing was won by Opal Macy. Diann Morell demonstrated the new friendship block "Kansas Star" from the Kansas City Star collection with fabric donated by Valeta Mantz, former member of the guild, and which will be due in October.

Ann Hicks demonstrated tea towels using embellishments. Announcements included: workdays on Sept. 25, Oct. 30 and Nov. 20; Quilting Diva Sale on Saturday, Nov. 13, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.; Threadbenders hosting Pat Knoechel on Sept. 16 at the First Presbyterian Church of Great Bend (guild will buy the book); Christmas Party on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m.; and 48 dog collars were made and given to the Pawnee County Humane Society. To date, members are working on projects for charity: TLC quilts for the Lions Christmas baskets, items for the Breast Cancer Awareness auction, dog collars for the Pawnee County Humane Society, and patriotic quilts for returning military wounded.

The Breast Cancer Awareness program and auction will be held at Scraps on Tuesday, Oct. 5, beginning at 7 p.m. The mobile mammogram unit will be parked on Broadway for people to tour. The public is invited.

Show and Tell participants from the recent workshop on "Crazy Quilts" were individual blocks by Ann Hicks, Diann Morell, Alice Clapsaddle and Karen Hadley. A 1907 crazy quilt from David Clapsaddle’s family was displayed.

Anyone wishing to join the group may contact Ann Hicks through the church, 620-285-6033.
