There are going to be a lot of Christmas-y things going on on Saturday, Dec. 4, at 2nd and State streets in Larned. One of them will involve George Weber of Great Bend as Santa Claus, in his wagon drawn by his 14-year-old mule, Babe. Babe is a jenny, or female. Weber made all of his wagon, he said, except for the axles and springs.

Santa and Babe will be at Sibley’s Camp, 2nd and State, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. that Saturday to give free, no-charge, buggy/wagon rides. Also, a photographer will be present to take pictures of kids with Santa to be printed on-site, right away, at no charge.

At the same time, across the street at the Little Red House, reenactments of Larned’s first Christmas will be ongoing. Refreshments will be served there by the Larned Tourism Committee. Again, there is no charge for this.

These events are sponsored by the Larned-based Wet/Dry Routes Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association.
