LARNED — The Pawnee County Fair is still more than a week away but a few pre-fair events will take place Monday and Tuesday, July 14-15, according to Kyle Grant with the Pawnee County Extension Office.
At 5 p.m. Monday, the 4-H and Open Family Trap Shoot with shotguns will start at the Larned Gun Club. The 4-Hers will shoot first, followed by open-class entries.
On Tuesday, the 4-H Fashion Style Revue judging takes place at 9:30 a.m. in the J.A. Haas Exhibit Building. Judges will also look at clothing construction and will provide helpful consultation to the 4-Hers. Then the public can watch the Fashion Style Review at 6 p.m. in the Larned Community Center Gym. The 4-H County Appreciation Dinner will also be taking place at that time in the gym.
Officially, the fair runs from July 23-26 but there are more pre-fair events starting next Saturday, July 19, with the Pawnee County Community Dog Show at 5 p.m. in the J.A. Haas Exhibit Buidling, followed by the 4-H Dog Show at 6 in the same building. Watch for a special fair preview in the July 19 Great Bend Tribune.
Sunday, July 20, is fair setup day with workers including 4-H youth, families and leaders, and superintendents.
Monday, July 21, it’s rabbit and poultry judging in the morning and the 4-H cat and hand pet show in the afternoon.
Open class and 4-H exhibits will be checked in Tuesday, July 22, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The Larned Community Center will be closed to the public from 1-4 p.m. for exhibit judging. Around 4 p.m. the exhibits will be open for viewing and from 6-8 p.m. animals may be dropped off at the John M. Lewis & Sons Livestock Center.

After the fair, there’s still the exhibit release and takedown/cleanup on July 27.
Then on Tuesday, July 29, there will be a Carcass Show at 6:30 p.m. in the J.A. Haas Exhibit Building and the 4-H Swim Party from 8-10 p.m. at the Larned Swimming Pool.
