Police investigate attempted kidnapping
Woman says someone tried to drag her into a pickup
GBPD-patch-2016

The investigation continues into a reported  attempted kidnapping that took place Sunday night in Great Bend, Great Bend Police Department Lt. Scott Bieberle said.

At about 9:30 Sunday, GBPD officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of 19th in reference to an attempted kidnapping that occurred in the area. Once there, they contacted Makenna Lewis, 23. She said she was walking from her residence, in the southeast part of Great Bend, to a relative’s residence in the 2700 block of 19th.

While walking, she noted a newer red pickup drove by her several different times, Bieberle said. Lewis said she heard loud Hispanic music being played in the truck.

When Lewis was in the area of 16th and Adams, she said an unknown male subject got out of the truck and grabbed her from behind. He was speaking in Spanish while trying to drag her to the pickup.

Bieberle said Lewis was able to break free from the subject’s grip and run to the relative’s residence to call the police and report the incident.  Officers checked the area, but were unable to locate the suspect vehicle at this time, Bieberle said.
