Prairie Godmothers bagging gifts for single moms

The next Prairie Godmothers event is a Build-A-Bag Brunch that will benefit single mothers in the Barton County area. The come-and-go event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 7, at Renue Salon & Spa, 1419 Main in Great Bend. There will be a brief program and door prize drawing at 12:30 p.m.
Prairie Godmothers donors as well as newcomers are invited to attend this service project, coming days before Mother’s Day.
To attend the event, every woman must bring an assigned list of essentials for a single mother (see below). When they arrive at the brunch, they can use the Build-A-Bag assembly line to place those items in a gift bag and write an encouraging note to the mother who will receive the gift bag.
Once the gift bag is ready to go, participants will enjoy a Build-A-Brunch station where they can assemble a lunch to eat in or carry out.
The door prize drawing is for a massage and pedicure from Renue Salon & Spa, provided by Sheryl Cheely.
The goal is to raise awareness for Prairie Godmothers, and to continue its mission of “Women Helping Women.”
Shopping list: Shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body lotion, disposable razors and deodorant. Extra that can be added for fun include a candle or bath salts, nail polish, hairbrush or comb, and feminine products.
Underwriters of this event are Sarah Shirer and Teresa Malone. Event committee members are Megan Barfield, Lexie Schneider, Krista Smith, Nancy Sundahl, Dorian Frances and Rachel Mawhirter.
