The Prairie Godmother Funds of the Golden Belt Community Foundation have been awarded a $25,000 Matching Grant from the Nichols Charitable Foundation.

“This means that every dollar we raise by the end of 2018 will be matched, dollar for dollar,” said Melanie Calcara with Prairie Godmothers. All gifts donated between now and Dec. 31 will be doubled.

The Prairie Godmother funds were established in 2014 to help area women facing critical financial needs. To date, more than 140 women in Barton County have been provided assistance.

The goal of the steering committee is to increase the nonprofit group’s endowed fund, currently at $200,000, to $250,000 by the end of the year.

“We have every confidence that we will hit that mark,” Calcara said. She encourages people to  consider making a gift to the Prairie Godmother Funds to take advantage of this matching grant. To make a gift, go online to www.goldenbeltcf.org/donation or mail a check to Golden Belt Community Foundation, 1307 Williams St., Great Bend, KS, 67530. Remember to put “Prairie Godmother Funds” in the memo line.
