Printing issues delay Wednesday Tribune
No paper delivery today

The Great Bend Tribune could not be printed Tuesday night and therefore no papers were delivered Wednesday, Publisher Judy Duryee announced. Subscribers can access the full electronic version of Wednesday’s Tribune online at www.gbtribune.com and the printed version will be delivered along with the Friday paper.

Duryee said the Tribune has been working to replace pre-press equipment.

“We are highly frustrated that our plate-making machine is still not fixed. These metal plates are put on our press and the impression from them is then printed on newsprint,” she explained. “We have been getting these plates from another paper in Kansas but with the supply issues they are not able to continue making these metal plates for us until their supply comes in – which was supposed to be this week but has been delayed until the middle of October. So we checked with other newspapers but the plates they use are a different size and will not fit on our press.

“The most frustrating part of this is that we will not have a printed Wednesday paper this week; it will be online so all subscribers will be able to access the newspaper that way.”

A technician who can fix the machine is scheduled to arrive on Thursday and a backup unit that should have arrived at the Tribune almost four weeks ago was shipped out Tuesday.

“Look for a Wednesday/Friday paper in one, delivered on Friday,” Duryee said.
