Journey to Resolve Poverty (Core Communities) is looking to start its new Getting Ahead class for people wanting to get out of poverty. The Getting Ahead orientation nights are set for Thursday, Oct. 29, and Nov. 5 at First United Methodist Church, 2123 Forest Ave., Great Bend.

A meal and childcare are provided, with the meal served at 5:30 p.m. and the classes beginning at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to enter the church on Stone Street, and the sessions take place in the basement.

The 20-week class will be held on Thursday nights starting Nov. 12 at the same times and location.

They are not able to take anyone who is on disability/seeking disability or anyone who has any significant mental health disorders (other than depression/anxiety). Anyone in recovery should be six month substance-free.
