STAFFORD — Have any of you eaten at a Fred Harvey House? In our collection, we have “The Harvey Girls: Women who opened the West.” I read this book several years ago and really enjoyed learning about the impact of Fred Harvery. He started his business in Kansas. Florence, Leavenworth, Topeka. Emporia, Dodge City, and Newton are some of the Kansas towns along the AT&SF that were impacted by Fred Harvey.
I was searching the Kansas Library card for a new read and found “Appetite for America,” by Stephen Fried. It is a great book on the Fred Harvey family and empire. Wish us luck and give us Grace while we are changing things up!
