This week the public was invited to join the Dominican Sisters of Peace in Great Bend for tea and savory delights as the Heartland Center for Spirituality staff and advisory council celebrated the inaugural “Hero for Heartland” event on April 26.
The Heartland Center for Spirituality is a “Spiritual Oasis for Souls,” staff member Ann Axman said. Programs and outreach include retreats, SpiritLife classes and the Movies with a Message series.
There were tours of the Motherhouse, which was built in 1940 and renovated in 1982. When finished, the chapel was entered in a contest by Interior Design magazine and it won first place in its category and first place overall. It was featured on a 1983 cover of the magazine.
Seven different tapestries were designed for the chapel, each based on a scripture.
