Movies with a Message returns


On Friday Aug. 22,  the Heartland Center for Spirituality will show the motion picture “Luther” at 6:15 p.m. in the auditorium of the Motherhouse of the Domincian Sisters of Peace. This is the first movie for the fall series of “Movies with a Message.” There will be refreshments and discussion time.
Movie description: During the early 16th Century idealistic German monk Martin Luther, disgusted by the materialism in the church, begins the dialogue that will lead to the Protestant Reformation.  
Other movies in the series include: The Gods Must be Crazy (Sept. 19), Amazing Grace (Oct. 17), The Life and Faith of C.S. Lewis: The Magic Never Ends (Nov. 14) and Of Gods and Men (Dec. 5th). A freewill offering will be accepted to offset the cost of refreshments. 


On Saturday Aug. 23 Heartland Center for Spirituality, 3600 Broadway Ave., Great Bend, will hold its first session in its spiritual formation classes, SpiritLife, for the fall semester.  Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the last class will conclude at 3 p.m.  
Classes for the day include:
Human Spirit, Spirituality, Christian Spirituality – this session will review definitions, understandings and experiences of these terms and begin to focus on the meaning and practice of Christian spirituality.
Second Vatican Council - Vatican II is like an umbrella over present contemporary issues related to spirituality. Hopefully all faith traditions can make associations and learn from this presentation.
Rhythm of Daily Living – Learn to recognize how our faith impacts the ordinary activities of our daily life.

Attendance for the day is $50 (lunch included).  
Those looking for a personal retreat for spiritual nourishment and enrichment may join the sponsors for an overnight stay, which includes breakfast, lunch and spiritual formation classes for $75.  
Heartland Center for Spirituality, a ministry of the Dominican Sisters of Peace, is inspired by the contemplative spirit of St. Dominic to preach the Gospel of Jesus by fostering spiritual refreshment, renewal and growth opportunities for individuals and groups.
