Notabole keynotes headline stewardship conference

DODGE CITY — Two nationally known speakers will deliver keynote addresses Aug. 24 at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Dodge City for the annual Stewardship Day for the Catholic Diocese of Dodge City.
 Mary Anne Layden, PhD, a psychotherapist and Director of Education at the Center for Cognitive Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania, will speak on “The Pornified Life.” Layden has appeared on television and is a highly respected commentator on the effects of pornography, prostitution and the international trafficking of women in prostitution. She has testified before the U.S. congress on five occasions in relation to issues of sexual violence, the sexual exploitation industry and the media. Layden specializes in the treatment of victims and perpetrators of sexual violence and sexual addiction.
 John Allen Jr., senior correspondent for the National Catholic Reporter and senior Vatican Analyst for CNN, will speak on “Pope Francis and Trends in the Global Catholic Church.” Allen is the author of seven best-selling books on the Vatican and Catholic affairs, including “All the Pope’s Men,” “The Rise of Benedict XVI,” “Opus Dei” and “A People of Hope” (all from Doubleday). He grew up in Hays where he attended Thomas More Prep and Fort Hays State University. Allen holds a Master’s degree in religious studies from the University of Kansas. He writes a weekly blog, “All Things Catholic,” found at ncronline.org.
 In addition to these keynote addresses, Stewardship Day will include the following breakout sessions and workshops in English:
• “Parish Stewardship Renewal, Joyfully Receiving and Sharing,” by the Most Rev. John B. Brungardt, bishop of Dodge City
• “Teen Mother Choices, The Other Prolife,” by Christa March, Teen Mother Choices International
• “Five Ways Lay Witnesses Make an Impact of Parish Stewardship,” by Eric Haselhorst, director of Stewardship for the Diocese of Dodge City.
