SALINA — Bethany House of Studies presents its 2013 Spring Event, “Tackling the Effects of Poverty,” on Saturday, March 9, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church, 302 South 7th St., Salina.
Presenters will be Dr. Bill Brown; Judy Peterson, PMA; Shelley Martin; and Joe McMurray.
People in poverty often face challenges virtually unknown to those in the middle class. The reality of being poor brings out a survival mentality and turns attention away from opportunities that most of us take for granted. An understanding of how dissimilar the world is perceived by those dealing with a different economic reality is invaluable. This workshop is designed for pastors and lay people, and is intended to provide practical, real world guidance on how congregations can better understand the challenges presented by poverty as well as impart effective ministries that deal with the barriers faced by the growing segment of poor people in our communities.
The cost is $30 per person and includes lunch and all materials. To register send name(s) of attendee(s) and a check made payable to Bethany House of Studies to: Spring Event 2013, c/o Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 North Main, Lindsborg, KS 67456
