The Rev. J.P. McCamey will celebrate his 90th birthday on June 29, 2022. 

He was born on June 29, 1932 in Waco, Texas to Clarence and Louise McCamey. He attended school in Waco including Baylor University and began his preaching career at the age of 17. In 1952 he married Elsie Kirkland and to that union was born daughter Debbie Edgeworth of Bloomington, Ind., and two sons, Jerry Glynn (wife Darlene) and Alan (wife Cherie). He has been blessed with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The Rev. McCamey pastored churches in Texas and Oklahoma before coming to Kansas in 1966 to pastor the Assembly of God Church in Galena. He was called to Great Bend in 1972 to pastor First Assembly of God Church where he faithfully served for 18 years, leading the church into four building programs as the church continued to grow. He resigned in 1991 to go into full-time traveling evangelism and continued this ministry for 21 years traveling and preaching the Word across the country. His wife, Elsie went to her eternal reward in 2002. He later married Merrily Karst Collins in 2004. To that union he gained two stepdaughters, Sheryl McDowell of Nashville, Tenn., and Rita Collins of Great Bend.
