A two-vehicle collision east of Hanston Thursday afternoon in Hodgeman County sent two people to the Jetmore hospital and closed K-156 from the U.S. 283 junction at Jetmore to the U.S. 183 junction in Pawnee County for a time.
Kansas Highway Patrol reports the accident occurred at 2:55 p.m. on K-156, about 3 miles east of Hanston. A  Freightliner semitrailer and an International truck were both traveling east and the semitrailer driver attempted to pass at the intersection, as the other driver was making a left turn. The semi hit the truck on the left side, spinning the truck into the north ditch. The semi also went into the north ditch and both vehicle cabs were destroyed by fire after the collision.
The semi driver, Bart T. Smith, 25, of Garden City, was taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries. The other driver, Dustin M. Lee, 32, of Hanston, was taken to the hospital by a county deputy.
Shortly before 5 p.m., KWCH-TV reported the Kansas Department of Transportation had closed the highway after the accident and would be detouring traffic on state routes for several hours.
