HOISINGTON – Come Friday, it will be the end of an era on Main Street in downtown Hoisington. After 31 years, the RSVP Thrift Store closes its doors for good.
“We hope our loyal customers will take the time to walk through the doors one more time, say goodbye to the volunteers and help us go out with a bang,” said Linn Hogg, Volunteers in Action of Central Kansas director. The hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
“There is a little bit of everything and cash donations will be accepted,” she said. She stressed this is an inventory closeout, and no reasonable offer refused.
“The RSVP Thrift Store has been in Hoisington since its start in 1990,” Hogg said. The project was a cooperative effort between then RSVP Director Mary Lou Warren and the property owner Selma Webb.
Webb became the volunteer store manager and was in that position until 2018 when she retired. Now the building has sold and the store is closing.
“The RSVP Thrift Store was the major fundraiser for the volunteer program to help with unexpected costs as well as volunteer recognition, medical transportation program and other needs as they arose,” Hogg said. The shop was operated through VIA, formerly known as RSVP, and generated between $6,000-10,000 per year.
“Many volunteers have helped with the program including several who drove from Great Bend to Hoisington every week,” she said.
VIA also saw this as a great connection to the Hoisington residents, Hogg said. Information about volunteering, Medical Transportation, Medicare Counseling, AARP taxes and other programs were handed out and discussed at the store.
“For now, there are no plans to reopen the store,” she said. However, should another location become available and the option presents itself, it would be considered.
The store is located at 158 S. Main. Call 620-792-1614 for more information.
