BARTON COUNTY — An unidentified motorist in Barton County rescued a Barton County Sheriff's Deputy who was apparently trapped in a submerged vehicle Saturday night.
Great Bend’s Lucas M. Herl, 29, was driving a Chevrolet Tahoe eastbound on K-96 at 9:19 p.m. when he encountered water over half on the right side of the road, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The Tahoe swerved into a ditch, where it rolled onto its roof. Herl was trapped and the Tahoe was submerged underwater until an unindentified motorist pulled him out of the vehicle, according to the accident report.
Due to his apparent injuries, Herl was transported to Great Bend Regional Hospital and was later treated and released. Herl was wearing his seat belt.
