SC Commissioners OK compensation

ST. JOHN — These are the minutes from the Stafford County Board of County Commissioner meeting.

The Stafford County Board of County Commissioners met on Wednesday, Feb. 11, in the Commission Room in the Annex. Chairman Garner called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. Present: Bryce Garner, Todd Wycoff, and Jim Stanford.

Commissioner Wycoff motioned to approve Resolution 2026-6, Concerning Compensation for Elected Officials, Department Heads, and other County Employees for 2026. Commissioner Stanford seconded the motion. Motion carried 3-0.

Trent Harman, Highway Department Supervisor, joined the meeting to present a state contract for a bridge replacement west of the Neola Road. Discussion was held over the bridge project. Commissioner Wycoff motioned to approve the agreement between the Secretary of Transportation, Kansas Department of Transportation and Stafford County for project number 93 C-5408-01.

Commissioner Stanford seconded. Motion carried 3-0.

Trent then presented other department updates.

Commissioner Wycoff motioned to approve the minutes from the Feb. 4 meeting. Commissioner Stanford seconded. Motion carried 3-0.

Commissioner Wycoff motioned to approve tax roll corrections. Commissioner Stanford seconded. Motion carried 2-0 with

Commissioner Garner abstaining.

Trisha Greene, Jewell Overby, and Baley Doggett with 21st Central Extension District joined to discuss office updates with the Commission. Greene presented information on the Fall Prevention classes they hold, along with, the senior information sessions they hold at Larabee Library and with the Stafford Senior Center. They also have financial literacy classes with CORE and discussed cooking classes they intend to hold. Greene discussed the Senior Strength and Balance classes and advised that attendance has gone up with all of their programs. Overby presented information on the 4-H program and that enrollment for 4-H has gone up. She discussed the Youth Career Discovery pilot program with Macksville Schools and how that has gone over with the kids, along with other youth involvement programs they offer. Doggett discussed her AG programs with area schools, one of which is a Farm to Pizza program that educates children on how crops become different food. She presented information on upcoming programs she is putting together. A Cover Crops program will be held on March 5, a Water Conservation Meeting on March 11, and a Beekeeping meeting for March 27. She discussed wanting to get a horticulture meeting together and will update on that when one is set.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Carl Miller stopped in to update the Commission on where the Zoning Board is with solar regulations. They discussed an upcoming meeting, to be followed by a public hearing. As soon as a date is set for that, more information will be available.

Marshal Sanders, Fire Director, joined to discuss rural fire department updates. The Stafford Fire station had a truck with a motor go out during a firefight and discussion was held on replacing the motor. He also discussed with the board an ongoing fire situation.

During the meeting, an Accounts Payable voucher and check was signed from the following fund:

Road & Bridge - $42,000

Total - $42,000
