Admittedly, Barton County Treasurer Jim Jordan said this is a piece of news nobody wants to hear right now as they struggle with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. But, second half of real estate and personal property taxes are due by May 11.
Jordan said payments can be:
• Mailed to his office at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main St., room 208, in Great Bend.
• Dropped in the drop box on the east side of the Courthouse.
• Paid online at through the county website, www.bartoncounty.org. On the right side of the home page are quick links.
Taxpayers can select the “online property tax payment(s)” tab. These are handled through the state and there is a 2.5% processing fee for the service.
• Taken to the county Annex Building drive-through at Broadway and Morton in Great Bend.
If taxpayers utilize the drive-through, they can expect a longer wait as they are busy, Jordan said. The annex does a lot of title work, which is very time consuming.
Those who would like a receipt can include a self-addressed stamped envelope with there payment.
In addition, a receipt can be printed via the county’s website at bartoncounty.org. Again, one needs to go to the right side of the home page under quick links.
Users can choose the “property tax search” tab, type in their last names, and on the right side are a series of options, including a “printer friendly” option.
