Solar energy projects are on the agenda for the next Barton County Commission meeting, set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, at the Barton County Courthouse, Room 106. The meeting will be live-streamed through Microsoft Teams. Citizens may view the meeting through their own sign-in or by signing in anonymously. Follow the link https://bit.ly/41elTie. If you wish to participate in the discussion of any item, call 620-793-1800 for instructions.

During the April 27 Planning Commission meeting, Planning Commissioner JC Bosch, under an added item, “Commercial Solar Farm Discussion,” asked that the Barton County Zoning Map be amended to prohibit commercial solar farms within 6 miles of Cheyenne Bottoms. The Planning Commission approved submission of the revised map to the Barton County Commissioners. In order to follow procedure, it is suggested that the County Commission return the item to the Planning Commission.

In an effort to aid the Planning Commission in the Zoning Regulation enforcement relative to Commercial Solar Farms, the commission will be asked to adopt a resolution establishing a moratorium on that activity in the unincorporated area of the County.

Other items on the agenda include Barton County Facade Improvement Grants; requests for out-of-state travel; equipment repair for the Road and Bridge Department; appointment of a trustee to Fire District No. 2; a resolution establishing a regular meeting schedule for the commissioners, possibly changing meeting dates to Tuesdays; and an executive session.

Following the close of the agenda meeting, the following appointments are scheduled:

10:15 a.m. – Great Bend Economic Development update – Sara Arnberger, Executive Director.

10:45 a.m. – Personnel Discussions – Levi Morris, County Attorney.

11:00 a.m. – Review Pawnee Rock Hard Rock 5K Run Route – Jon Prescott, Pawnee Rock Revitalization.

11:15 a.m. – Regular Business Discussion – Matt Patzner, County Administrator.

1:30 p.m. – Department Head meeting with the Commissioners in the Courthouse Conference Room, Room 101.
