When St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center offered some of its modified chapel pews at its recent fundraising auction, it became obvious people were interested.

          Therefore, several more pews have been modified and are being offered for sale in the main lobby through the holiday season, said Mark Mingenback, St. Rose business development and marketing director.

          All proceeds will be directed to Golden Belt Home Health & Hospice patients for end-of-life medication and equipment.

          Stan Schadel, a St. Rose facilities staff member, has been working on the project.

          “Stan is a talented carpenter who modified several pews that are now functional for a number of uses,” Mingenback said. “They can be used in a home or office for an attractive seating arrangement, for example.”

          Pews that will seat two people will sell for $200; the three- and four-person lengths will go for $300. These were the amounts the pews sold for at the auction, Mingenback noted.

          “Anyone interested can view the pews in the lobby,” he added. “They are not only functional but can serve as a memento of our chapel.”

          St. Rose is selling the pews because the circular structures at the facility will be razed next year.

          St. Rose is part of Centura Health, which connects individuals and families across western Kansas and Colorado with more than 6,000 physicians, 15 hospitals, seven senior-living communities, physician practices and clinics, and home-care and hospice services.

          Centura and Hays Medical Center have signed a letter of intent to become co-owners of St. Rose.
