STAFFORD — A wearable version of Stafford’s mural project has been delivered and is available for purchase or pickup if pre-ordered.

“We will have extras to sell,” said City Administrator Jami Downing, who noted that available colors and sizes will be posted soon.

A $5 portion of the proceeds from each T-shirt or sweater purchased will be put into the city’s Community Development Fund, earmarked for future mural projects.

“We’ve got a few ideas, it’s just going to depend upon what we go to next,” Downing said. “Our second mural is nearing completion right now and we are working on plans for what the third one will be.”

Stafford Office Clerk Deana Eisenhour kick-started the mural effort this summer, when she volunteered to paint the first mural on the side of the Stafford Lumber Co. building on South Main Street. A $200 grant from the South Central Community Foundation had been awarded but was not enough for the services of a professional artist. Eisenhour chose a quilt pattern, with relevant local details including the community’s Oktoberfest logo, city elevation and ZIP Code, the Stafford High School; Trojan mascot and a ticket from the local Ritz Theatre.

The 9-foot by 9-foot mural marks the entrance to Stafford’s business district from the south.

Eisenhour was also able to work in a tribute to her brother, Doug, who passed away five years ago. In addition to being a firefighter and EMT, Doug Brown was also Stafford Chief of Police for 29 years.

A local painter is currently completing a second mural on the south side of lumberyard building, featuring a “Welcome to Stafford” theme, Downing said.

The Stafford community is gearing up for the holidays, with upcoming soup suppers, raffles and shop-local promotions. The local Trunk or Treat on Tuesday for Halloween is the next item on the list, Downing said.
