BARTON COUNTY — Barton County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped a vehicle at about 6:20 p.m. on SE 20 Road, about one and a half miles south of Great Bend. They believed a wanted suspect was in the vehicle, which turned out to be true. Robert Scheuerman, age 35, Larned, had a handgun and refused to surrender to officers, threatening to harm himself.

Negotiations continued for about an hour and a half, while BCSO deputies kept the car blocked in. At 7:54 p.m., Scheuerman agreed to leave the gun in the car and get out of the vehicle. He was arrested on a Pawnee County parole violation warrant. Other charges are currently pending because substantial amounts of a substance believed to be methamphetamines and substantial amounts of cash were found in the vehicle.

According to Sheriff Brian Bellindir, no one was harmed in the incident.
