Stress and its link to the immune system is the topic for the next interactive televideo (ITV) presentation at St. Rose Ambulatory & Surgery Center. It is scheduled for 3-4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 in the basement-level St. Dominic Room.
Anyone who is touched by cancer or other chronic physical illness is encouraged to attend the free session.
“Stress just seems to be part of everyday life,” said Moira Mulhern, ITV presenter. “It can affect physical health, with chronic illnesses often flaring up during especially stressful times.
“When we are repeatedly bombarded with stress, the immune system defenses are often impaired,” added Mulhern, executive director and co-founder of Turning Point: The Center for Hope and Healing.
Turning Point and the Midwest Cancer Alliance (MCA) collaborate to bring ITV presentations to St. Rose, which is an MCA member. MCA is the outreach arm of The University of Kansas Cancer Center.
“We hope anyone interested in learning about the inner workings of our stress response system and its links to the immune system will attend this event,” Mulhern said. “Participants can also discover some strategies for managing this common aspect of life in more effective ways.”
