A stolen boat was recovered Saturday and a suspect was arrested, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir said.
Sheriff’s officers were dispatched to Cape Marine at 713 Patton Road in Great Bend on Saturday for a reported theft case. The owner reported having someone on camera stealing a boat on Friday afternoon.
A boat, trailer and several motors were allegedly stolen from the business. Deputies reviewed the security camera footage and were able to identify a suspect and vehicle.
At approximately 2:18 p.m. Saturday, deputies located the trailer, boat and boat parts at the home of Brandon Williams, 30, of Great Bend. At that time an attempt to locate (ATL) bulletin was broadcast to local law enforcement agencies for the suspect.
At 3:10 p.m., officers from the Great Bend Police Department located Williams near 17th and Monroe Street, driving the vehicle seen in the security video. More boat motors and parts were located in the back of the vehicle.
Williams was arrested and booked in the Barton County jail on a charge of theft. He was released after posting a $5000 surety bond.
“In this case, quick work by the deputies and cooperation between local law enforcement entities resulted in the arrest of the alleged thief and the return of the property to the owner,” Bellendir said.
