Ten Great Bend High School seniors who attained proficiency in English and Spanish earned the Kansas Seal of Biliteracy.
Being bilingual in English and another world language is the first step in earning the seal. Superintendent Khris Thexton said students take tests that including performing in-person translations to earn either a gold or silver seal, depending on their level of proficiency.
The seal is a statement of accomplishment that recognizes a student’s readiness for career and college and for engagement as a global citizen. The seal is presented with the student’s diploma at graduation and will be a part of his or her high school record.
GBHS Seal of Biliteracy Awards will go to the following 2020 graduates:
Gold: Elaine Hernandez, Mayra Ramirez, Karina Mata, Julio Herrera.
Silver: Janneth Lozoya, Regan Schridde, Anthony Molina, Sayra Solis, Chloe Gibson and Antonio Sota.
