Barton County Treasurer Jim Jordan reminds the public that the Treasurer’s Office Annex, 2223 Broadway, Great Bend, remains open. The facility is staffed 7:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
All services are available with the exception of commercial vehicle renewals, which is done earlier in the year, and the refund of license plates. Jordan noted that license plates do not fit through the windows or he would be full service at this location.
The main site for the office is at the Courthouse, 1400 Main, Room 208, Great Bend. The office is staffed 8 a.m.–4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The office allows in only one person per transaction at this time. Taxpayers can send a check or money order for tax payments or pay on line and Jordan added that the state does charge a fee for the service.
The link is found at the county’s website, www.bartoncounty.org, under Quick Links – on-line property tax payments.
Jordan has instructed staff at the Courthouse to work with taxpayers on site first. Those calling are encouraged to leave a message, which will be returned by the end of the business day.
“The first and last week of the month tend to be the busiest,” he said. “We understand that leaving a message may be frustrating, but our efficiency has improved by focusing on on-site customers.
“We’re also able to handle telephone traffic without interruptions at the end of the day and without having to make on-site customers wait,” he said. “I think once taxpayers are used to this change, they will appreciate the focus our staff provides.”
