Barton County Sheriff Office Deputy David Melcher arrested two people on drug charges at 2 a.m. on Friday in the parking lot of Brit Spaugh Park.
Sean Brown, age 27 of Larned, and Nichole McConkey of Garfield were both arrested for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, felony possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir reports Melcher was in the 2300 block of Main Street in Great Bend when he observed a vehicle in the parking lot of the park, near the pool. The driver-side door of the vehicle was standing open and initially the deputy did not see any occupants. The park was closed at that time.
Upon further investigation the deputy found Brown and his passenger McConkey in the vehicle. It was discovered that McConkey had two outstanding felony warrants and was placed under arrest.
The K-9 officer from the Great Bend Police Department was called and assisted the deputies. As a result of the K-9 investigation, the officers located suspected methamphetamine, marijuana, prescription drugs, scales, baggies and approximately $250 cash as well as other paraphernalia.
Both were booked into the Barton County Jail with bonds set at $100,000. McConkey faces additional bonds for outstanding warrants for child endangerment and parole violation.
Both remained in the Barton County Jail as of Friday afternoon.
