ELLINWOOD — The United Way of Central Kansas and dedicated volunteers came together to host an ice cream social during halftime at a recent community event.
According to UWCK Team Ellinwood volunteer Becca Maxwell, “This gathering not only satisfied sweet cravings but also showcased the collective commitment to strengthening our beloved Ellinwood community. During this event, we proudly served 200 ice cream sundaes, offering a sweet taste of unity and camaraderie. We deeply appreciate the generosity of our community members who contributed through freewill donations. These contributions will play a pivotal role in sustaining and expanding our impactful programs within Ellinwood.”
Here are some of the programs that the United Way of Central Kansas continues to champion in Ellinwood:
• “Reality U” returns to Ellinwood Middle School this year, providing invaluable financial education to over 200 Ellinwood students since 2018. This engaging event equips middle school students with essential life skills to navigate the real world.
• “Box of Love” spreads joy to the Ellinwood Senior Center and Meals on Wheels participants in Ellinwood by delivering heartfelt Valentines.
• “Stuff the Bus” has become an annual tradition, amassing thousands of essential items for Ellinwood schools and the Ellinwood Senior Center.
• The “Dolly Parton Imagination Library” has been instrumental in mailing 8,423 books since its inception in Central Kansas in 2012. This program, in partnership with the Ellinwood Community Library, fosters a love for reading among our youngest residents from an early age.
• “The United Way of Central Kansas remains committed to creating positive change in Ellinwood and beyond. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our generous community for their unwavering support,” Maxwell said.
