Crews will soon begin resurfacing a 14-mile section of U.S. 56 in Rice County.

The project – a mill and hot-mix asphalt overlay – will be on U.S. 56 from the east city limits of Lyons east to the McPherson County line.

The work is expected to begin around Friday, Sept. 25, and be completed around the end of October, depending on the weather.

During the project, traffic will be controlled by a pilot car and flaggers, and motorists should be prepared to stop and face delays of up to 15 minutes.

The Kansas Department of Transportation is overseeing the project. APAC-Kansas Inc., of Hutchinson, is the main contractor for the $1,935,248 project.
