USD 112 Board OKs logo

HOLYROOD — The new Oilers logo, an oil derrick and the letter “O” in forrest green, was approved at Monday’s meeting of the Central Plains USD 112 board of education.
Superintendent Steve Woolf said a vote was taken by students in Claflin, Holyrood and Bushton to choose the new logo. The final talley was 118 to 68.
In other business:
• A resolution was approved to transfer or sell Claflin Elementary School and the USD 354 district office to the City of Bushton for $1.
In exchange, USD 112 will lease the school’s gym on terms agreeable to the the board.
• Woolf discussed moving the bus barn from CES to Claflin Junior-Senior High School.
“I only want to if it is cost effective,” he said.
• The board voted in favor of teaching about wind energy and creating partnerships with grants and businesses with the goal of installing a wind turbine generator at CJSHS.
The turbine will be used for electricity and for use by science classes.
The board recessed the meeting until 6 p.m. Monday, April 25, at Quivira Heights Elementary Junior High School in Holyrood.
