One teacher’s resignation and the appointment of a new teacher received approval from the Great Bend USD 428 Board of Education when it met Tuesday at Park Elementary School.

Jordan Hammack, a science teacher at Great Bend High School, will resign at the end of this school year after the final work day on May 17. She has accepted a teaching position in Osborne that will give her a chance to be closer to family. In her letter of resignation addressed to GBHS Principal Tim Friess, Hammack wrote, “I am incredibly grateful for the Capturing Kids’ Hearts training and opportunities for professional development. Working with some of the kids in Great Bend was a memorable and exciting experience that I will carry with me as I continue in my professional career.”

The next school year will also see Hugo Gonzalez teaching CTE (career technical education) courses at Great Bend High School. Gonzalez himself is a GBHS graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Fort Hays State University. He is being hired under the Transition to Teaching program and is prepared to teach art, graphic design, and web development. In the future, he may also teach computer science.
