Vehicle thought to have rammed Claflin store during break-in

CLAFLIN – Sometime early Sunday morning, there was a break-in at Bailey’s Food Bin in downtown Claflin, said Gary Vaughan of the Claflin Police Department.

It is believed that those involved used a vehicle to jump a barrier and shatter a large front window to gain entry between 3 and 7:30 a.m., Vaughan said. After entering through the front, the thief or thieves broke into and rifled through a cigarette case, apparently stole only cigarettes and exited through the back door.

It looks like the store owners will have more lost from the damage than from the theft, he said. However, a final inventory of missing items had not been completed.
