An unexpected water main break caused Jefferson Elementary School to dismiss early on Wednesday, but classes will resume as regularly scheduled on Thursday morning.

Shortly before noon on Wednesday, Great Bend USD 428 Public Information Director Andrea Bauer said students would be dismissed at 12:15 p.m. and parents were being asked to pick up their students promptly.

“Notices have been posted on social media and parents have been notified via email,” Bauer said. “We thank the community for their understanding and cooperation as this situation is out of our control. Crews are on site to address the issue and we will keep the public informed.”

Later in the afternoon, Bauer reported that water issues had been resolved.
