WICHITA — A winter storm warning for Barton County was changed to a winter weather advisory Monday morning by the National Weather Service in Wichita. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible. The winter weather advisory for hazardous winter weather is in effect from 6 p.m. Monday to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Snow is expected to fall later Monday evening and continue through Tuesday morning. Northerly winds of 25 to 35 mph gusting to 45 mph will cause blowing and drifting of snow and very low visibilities. Roads could become very hazardous for motorists.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of winter weather will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
A winter storm warning is in effect for Russell and Lincoln counties and areas north and west of Barton County. Snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible.
Greater than 6 inches of snow looks possible for locations generally along and north of interstate 70 with lesser amounts to the south. Meanwhile, up to a foot will be possible closer to the kansas-nebraska border. Travel is discouraged across northern Kansas Monday through Tuesday.
