Animal Medical Center recently hosted over 130 members of the Barton County Young Professionals group for a networking mixer, and welcomed over 60 new members. Those in attendance enjoyed free food, social and professional networking opportunities, and drawings for over $1,000 in door prizes.
“We were very pleased with the turnout, and were grateful for a chance to generate good will among the YP members,” said Nels Lindberg, AMC’s owner. “Not only did we have a good time, but we made a lot of valuable connections and partnered with two other local businesses to promote shopping local and supporting other local companies whenever possible.”
The Barton County Young Professionals group is a program of the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce & Economic Development catered to working adults between 21 and 40ish who live in the Barton County area. In October, the group surpassed 600 members. With an additional boost of 71 new members signing up at the Nov. 7 mixer, the roster now contains over 675 individual names representing all industries in Central Kansas.
“New people are welcome to join the YP group at any time, and membership is free,” said Candice Moeder, 2014 Steering Committee chair. “Our events rotate between networking mixers, volunteer projects, family events and professional luncheons. YP’s three main goals are to facilitate networking, give back to the community and develop young leaders.”
The group’s next function will be a Personal Development Luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at the Pizza Hut Buffet, 4101 10th St. The topic will be “Understanding Employer Benefits” and will help attendees get the most out of programs such as cafeteria (flex) plans, retirement plans and health plans. Ruth Bealer, HR director for Adams Brown Beran & Ball, will facilitate the meeting. No reservations required, and each person must pay for their own meal before leaving.
The group will also meet on Tuesday, Dec. 9 for its annual Ugly Sweater Christmas Party.
