Zooks remembered at Pawnee County Fair
Pawnee Co fair Zook brush

Eli Makings found an artifact with family ties this past week at the Pawnee County Fair: A brush with a Double “D” sticker on it.

Janet Fleske, whose fair photos can be found on the Great Bend Tribune website, said Makings is the son-in-law of David and Judy Zook, who owned and operated the Double “D” Western Store in Larned for 33 years. Judy died in 2013 and there is a Judy Zook memorial at the fair.

Eli, who is married to the Zooks’ daughter Debbie, found the brush at the fairgrounds but doesn’t know who it belonged to.

Fleske sent a photo of David and Judy Zooks’ granddaughters, Alea Makings and Dava Keith, presenting a feed pan to first-time beef showman Brody Pelton. Each first-year livestock showman receives one of the pans after the swine, sheep, goat and beef show.
