DUNDEE — A Kinsley man is recovering at a Wichita hospital after suffering serious injuries in a two-vehicle crash Monday morning.
Aaron Gonzales, 19, of Kinsley was transported to a Wichita area hospital with serious injuries after being extracted from his vehicle by Great Bend Fire Department personnel, according to a report from the Barton County Sheriff’s Office.
Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir reported that at approximately 7:53 a.m. Monday, deputies were dispatched to an injury crash on U.S. 56 at SW 60 Ave. near Dundee. The two-vehicle collision closed the roadway for nearly two hours and traffic was diverted to an alternate route in the county.
Investigation at the scene indicated that the 2011 Honda Accord driven by Gonzales was eastbound entering a curve. The Honda crossed left of center, striking a 2010 Ford Super Duty pulling a trailer operated by Israel Soto, 38, of Hutchinson.
Upon impact, the Gonzales vehicle traveled several hundred feet, coming to rest in the south ditch. The F250 and trailer jackknifed, entering the north ditch.
Gonzales remained trapped in his vehicle for approximately 40 minutes, while being extricated by the GBFD. Once removed, he was transported to the Great Bend Municipal Airport, where he was airlifted to a Wichita area hospital with serious injuries.
Soto, as well as two passengers in the F250, sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene by Great Bend Emergency Medical Service personnel.
The BCSO was assisted at the scene by the GBFD, GB EMS, Kansas Department of Transportation and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
