HODGEMAN COUNTY — Kansas Highway Patrol reports no one appeared to be injured Thursday after a truck hit a train on railroad tracks six miles east of Hanston on K-156 at 3:23 p.m. The train was driven by Nichols Gerdes, 26, of Great Bend, with second engineer Mackenzie Lucas, 27, also of Great Bend. According to the report, Jose M. Lopez Valdez, 60, of Garden City was driving a 2002 Peterbilt that was pulling a broken down 2012 Peterbilt. He and passenger Rolando Lopez, 25, also of Garden City, were traveling west on K-156 and the train was eastbound on the tracks. Lopez tried to avoid hitting the train at the last minute by swerving to the left but the vehicle hit the end of the train and went into the south ditch.
