A Parsons man died and a Larned man was seriously injured Tuesday in a head-on collision on U.S. 400 in Wilson County in southeast Kansas. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred at 6:13 p.m. about 0.3 miles east of the K-39 intersection, which is northeast of Fredonia.

James R. White Jr., 54, of Parsons, was eastbound on U.S. 400, driving a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu, and Korey W. Landenburger, 23, of Larned, was driving west in a 2008 Dodge Ram 2500. The Malibu crossed into the westbound lanes of traffic and Landenburger attempted to avoid collision by entering the eastbound lanes, but the car crossed back into the east-bound lanes and struck the truck head-on, KHP reports.

White was pronounced dead at the scene while Landenburger was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. KHP reports Landenburger was wearing a seat belt while it was unknown if White was wearing one.
