A vehicle stolen Friday morning from a Great Bend residence was located and returned that day, and two men were arrested in connection with the theft, according to the Great Bend Police Department.

GBPD Chief Steve Haulmark reported Monday that at approximately 10:34 a.m. officers were dispatched to the 2200 block of Tyler Street in reference to the theft of a motor vehicle. Upon arrival, the officers were told a 2015 Nissan Altima had been taken within the last few minutes. While officers were still on the scene, a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper reported spotting a vehicle matching the description heading east on U.S. 56 out of Great Bend. As the trooper approached, the vehicle stopped on the road shoulder and the two occupants fled. The KHP and Barton County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate and detain both individuals.

Joshua Kelly, Great Bend, was arrested and charged with theft of a motor vehicle. Tyler Partington, Great Bend, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested on KHP charges.

Both men were booked in Barton County Jail and being held in lieu of bond.
