Suspected cocaine seized in traffic stop

Suspect cocaine was seized, along with a loaded handgun, when the Barton County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop around 10 p.m. on Friday, March 31, in Great Bend, Sheriff Brian Bellendir reports.

Deputies with the BCSO stopped a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee operated by Michael Danielson, age 56, of Great Bend, in the 3700 block of Lakin Ave.

During the course of the traffic stop, the Great Bend Police Department K-9, Menta, indicated the presence of controlled substances, Bellendir stated in a news release. Deputies located suspected cocaine, $800 in U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia, as well as a loaded Sig Sauer 9 mm handgun.  

Danielson was arrested at the scene without incident and transported to the Barton County Jail. He was booked on requested charges of possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal use of a firearm. He’s being held in lieu of a $50,000 cash or surety bond.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Great Bend Police Department.
