A three-vehicle crash on Thursday, Oct. 26, sent three people to Barton County hospitals but none had life-threatening injuries, Barton County Sheriff Brian Bellendir reported. The BCSO was notified of the crash at the intersection of K-156 and NE 110 Ave. at 11:35 a.m.
Upon arrival, deputies located two vehicles in the intersection with heavy damage and a third vehicle overturned in the north ditch.
“Investigation at the scene indicates a 2014 Kia Sorento operated by John Hartley, age 73, of Wichita was westbound and had stopped to make a left turn onto NE 110 Avenue. A 2015 Jeep Patriot operated by Megan Grieve, age 38, of Great Bend was also westbound and did not see the Kia stopped ahead of her. The Jeep struck the rear of the Kia, forcing it into the eastbound lane. The Kia was struck by an eastbound Ford F-550 truck operated by Kevin Houser of Raymore, Missouri. After striking the Hartley vehicle the truck overturned into the north ditch,” Bellendir said.
Hartley and his passenger Marilyn Hartley, age 78, of Wichita were transported to Clara Barton Medical Center in Hoisington. Grieve was transported to the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend campus. Houser and a passenger in his truck, Kevin Bossaller, age 57, also of Raymore, Missouri, were not injured in the collision. Occupants of all of the vehicles were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
There were some personnel from Fort Riley who came upon the crash and assisted the BCSO at the scene with traffic control, Bellendir said.
