Arlon M. Postlethwaite, 83, died Feb. 25 at Cherry Village Nursing Home in Great Bend. Born Feb. 24, 1930 in Minneapolis, he was the son of Richard Arlon and Edna Laura (Meredith) Postlethwaite. On Aug. 13, 1950, he married Eleanora Maier in Susank. A resident of Great Bend since 1952, coming from Hoisington, he was a longtime service manager for Marmie Motors in Great Bend. He enjoyed coin collecting and car restoration.
Mr. Postlethwaite was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vintage Wheels Car Club and served on the Great Bend City Council from 1982 to 1992 and from 1999 to 2003.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanora Postlethwaite, of the home; three sons, Gerald A. “J.P.” Postlethwaite and wife Debbie of Great Bend, Darrel Postlethwaite and wife Susan of Lawrence, and Michael Postlethwaite and wife Brenda of Lindsay, Okla.; one daughter, Bonnie Postlethwaite of Overland Park; one sister, Darlene Kirkland of Wichita; six grandchildren, Joel Postlethwaite and wife Jeri and Dena (Postlethwaite) Popp and husband Rick, both of Great Bend, Travis Postlethwaite of Overland Park, Kyle Postlethwaite of Scottsdale, Ariz., Keelia Postlethwaite of Los Angeles, Calif., and Kalli Postlethwaite of Edmond, Okla.; five great-grandchildren, Lance Popp, Trey Popp, Kelci Popp, Jace Postlethwaite, and Brody Postlethwaite. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Eldon Postlethwaite and Don Postlethwaite.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Great Bend with the Rev. James A. Strasen officiating. Burial will be at the Great Bend Cemetery. Friends may visit from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., on Friday at Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the Trinity Lutheran Church or the Great Bend Fire Department Social and Charity Fund, in care of the funeral home.
